Tips on Getting your Child to Eat More Fruit

Fruit can play a great role in the growth and development of your child. Fruit is filled with vitamins, minerals, fiber, and antioxidants! If your child is stuck eating the same few fruits here are some tips to help broaden their selection:

Serve a little bit of fruit with each meal, or with snacks.

Fruit doesn’t need to just be served with breakfast or as a dessert, fruit can be served with every meal. Cut up some apple with dinner or serve some cut up strawberries and yogurt as a snack!

Other fruit ideas:

Fruit on pancakes

Add strawberries, blueberries, watermelon to a salad

Oranges and yogurt as dip

Frozen fruit popsicles

Fruit smoothies

Role model fruit eating in front of your children at mealtime and snack time.

The more your child is exposed to different fruits and witnesses you eat fruit, the more likely they are to ask for it!

With that being sad, try to not draw too much attention to eating fruit, make it a normal part of meal and snack time!

And keep trying to serve fruits that they might not always eat without forcing them to try it- leave it up to them, but don’t assume they don’t like it if they push it away the first time they are exposed!

Patience is key when getting children to eat any new foods, don’t get discouraged when they push it away or ask for the same fruits. Just try to implement different tactics such as these and fruit should become enjoyable and a part of every day!
